Extended Mode dont exist

Only Pimax Mode, and Video Mode is avaible for choice in the main interface. I want to play other games in extended mode, because need to leave steam vr open to capture head tracking, and open other games to play in pimax like as monitor. My video card is a gtx 1060. When i activate the integrated video card, pimax mode works like as extended mode and i can do exactly what i want, but the performance stay so terryfing. I need to use the pimax in extended mode with dedicated video card.
Thank you for support.

Have you tried in steamvr settings to turn off direct mode?

I think he’s saying there’s no ‘extended mode’ option in piplay anymore. That’s correct. Pimax replaced it with ‘video mode’. I’m also not even sure what that means. If this is 100% ‘extended’ mode like it was before ? I’m not using ‘video mode’ myself.

Exactly. I had my suspicious of the replacing have you mentioneded. But in the ‘video mode’, steam vr don’t recongnizes pimax hmd and not work. When i use the integrated graphics card, ‘pimax mode’ works like ‘extended mode’ maybe because her don’t support ‘direct mode’. I see pimax symbol in hmd screen, steam recongnizes the hmd, and windows recongnizes him like a monitor. I can play any game in hmd (using him like a 2k monitor), with headtracking maked with open tracking and steam vr, but performance is bad. Indeed i needed that the steam vr running, and my pc seeing the hmd like a monitor, simultaneously. Obviosly using main graphics card.

When i try disable direct mode in steam vr, after the auto reset, steam vr returns in direct mode, so this also don’t work.

Tnk’s for support

Not sure then. @PIMAX-Support do you know how to force extend mode? I know you combined some if the extend modes into pimax mode.

Hi guys, actually “Extend mode” of previous Piplay versions you referred was past same as “Extend mode” of OC runtime 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, since it’s little hard to launch those games in that mode for newbies, sometimes even resulted desktop icons lost or other issues. Furthermore, new later games that not developed base on that mode anymore.

To my knowledge, SteamVR also has extend and direct modes that are the same actually but different forms. SteamVR’s extend mode requires lower PC config but bad performance, and its direct mode can support discrete graphics better. Hence, most of graphics manufacturers, game factories recommend to use SteamVR’s direct mode, and Virtual Desktop is a solution for taking the helmet as a monitor.

The present Piplays can support most of DK1&DK2 games in theory. You can switch to Pimax mode and click “Open local” to test whether the games you like may run or not. @StreamCast

I really like the video mode. Performance without Virtual Desktop gets higher, the image sharper, it would be nice if you never disable video mode.

It is best for emulators, ReShade and old games that support SBS.

And it’s not difficult to use, just keep the game shortcuts in the the same folder.

what version of piplay have the “extended mode”?

You’d probably want to try v1.1.92. This version defaults to 1080p though, so make sure to change it to 1440p in piplay config.
