I have been an uktrageek since 1978.
Since 2012 with the beginning of vr I have bought many vr headsets like:
-Oculus Dk1/2/Cv1
-Htc Vive
-Pimax 5k+
-Sony PsVr1
-Hp Reverb G2
I can’t wait to test the Pimax Crystal.
I also go karting in real life and compete on the #Iracing simulator with a #Team of pilots all equipped with vr helmets on the #Dallara Lmp2.

Last year pimax finally released a pitool software that works nickel + the #OpenXr software that optimizes many simulators like Dcs world / Il2 Bob / Mfs 2020.
I have a friend #Kadena who is the commercial of Prosimu.com and for his customers for my simulation it is with pimax 8kx that they sell his dynamic cockpits.

Then I insist with the helmets of pimax?
Me personally playing with a vr headset with a horse fov since 2012 I’m fed up.
My pimax 5k+ despite its lack of youth worked very well in simulation.
So the pimax unveils new 3.0 helmets!
Super or disaster?
I will give my feedback if pimax gives me time to test it.

As I am passionate about simulation, it is for the crystal that I came:
-The simulators where I drive a lot:
-Dcs world
-Il2 Bob /Il2 Flying circus /Il2 Tank at Prokhorovka
-Mfs 2020
-Iracing
So crystal with friends from my virtual simulation #team we’ve been waiting for it for a LONG TIME.
The new #Qled display + aspherical lenses give our LCD / fresnel / oled helmets -displays that we have known since 2012 a very big boost.
finish them:
-Goodray
-Screen Door
-Sweetspot
-Lens Glare
-Ghosting
-Freeze when you move your head.
etc etc
The crystal with a #Qled display definitely changes VR as we know it
and especially the vr in simulation which is the most complex to manage on a screen plus the need to have a very very powerful pc. We are in the very high-end vr.
Sweviver had an rtx 4090 when I flew #Aerofly S2 / asseto corsa.
And I was piloting the simulator solo with sweviver, so imagine that with the multiplayer it will take Rtx 4090 for a crystal in simulation.
With sweviver I was able to calmly as I had arrived in advance could see the settings in SteamVr:
4300x4100/90hz so the Rtx 3090 bye bye in simulation
As an il2 pilot said on their forum, crystal is perfect for simulation, even with pilots like me who wear glasses, I’m 56 on 12/18/2022 lol.
So perfection at a price, ends the mid-range Hp reverb g2 at 600€, ends the helmets with display #Lcd /quest 2/pimax 8kx/Varjo Aero.
I discovered VR 3.0 with the Pimax Crystal as with the Varjo XR3, I discovered the VR of the future, and like all products ahead of their time, the price is steep
Here is my feedback of this Crystal that I will buy in 2023, share my test on the French/Canadian/Belgian/Francophone site in the world of simulation =
my final report in 2023 on crystal in simulation will unpretentiously sell pimax crystal because since 1999 I have been known in the simulation and VR sector. and with lots of personal friends all over France.
my pimax 5k+ Hp Reverb G2 will go in a showcase like my old vr headsets, we’re going from vr 2.0 that we’ve known since the Hp Reverb G2/Pimax 8kx to vr 3.0.
I saw reviews from some YouTubers against crystal, I have no action on the betting stock market for pimax in paris / newyork lol, I’m very annoying, very impartial, if the crystal would be bad I would write it here.
These so-called testers on youtube for the most part never pilot in simulation / Vr it is not possible otherwise.
This crystal pleasantly surprised me, enormously surprised, what a magnificent image, the #Qled display is really one of the biggest updates of vr in 2022 / a soft pitools that we finally forget like the strap / faceplate + more pain in the nose or on the top of the skull - neck /+ light helmet, we forget the tracking as it works very well, no tracking dropout, we are more in the generation of the 8kx /Hp Reverb g2/Varjo aero /, the crystal is more lightweight/compact of the same generation as the Varjo Xr3, while costing half the price!
And finish for me the basics of my old pimax 5k+ yeahhh
A very big step in vr with this crystal, VR 3.0 arrived in 2022 finally, not too soon
Prepare the blue card, sell a kidney, because in simulation:
Rtx 4090 + Crystal + Intel/amd very recent processor
Highly recommend pimax crystal for simulation

One would not expect tracking to be an issue while seated. It does appear to be in other accounts with controllers though.

How much do you think it is an improvement over the Reverb G2, clarity and FOV wise? With an rtx 4080 i can supersample everything at 200% minimum and it’s super sharp, but with a Crystal that kind of supersampling is not possible. So i’m curious how big of a step forward it will be.
With the Crystal you don’t really need super sampling, it has an incredibly dense pixel arrangement. Super sampling has highly diminishing returns as you increase it, 200% is usually well past the threshold of noticeable benefit. When I set up the crystal I do setup to cover for data lost in the mask but that is a small value.
ah thats good to know it isn’t really needed anymore. With 200% i’m now with the G2 at 4460 so i will be oke with the Crystal. May i ask how the Crystal reacts with undersampling? For example in msfs2020 it;s needed i think

Here is, then the difference I explained in my feedback with my G2 Vs Crystal:
-The g2/Lcd panel has a ppd of 20/22.
-Fov of 88 real and not 110 like the HP commercial ad.
The G2 has black not black Des, forced to add Ss to 3800x3700 for my part to drive well, to have a nice image on dcs world/ mfs 2020/iracing/Il2 Bos/
The g2 has a small sweetspot, the image has a sharp image, it’s true, but the front is in play.
We are obliged to move our heads constantly in simulation.
The capture of the G2: we must always play in a lit room otherwise the tracking jumps in the dark.
-The g2 is very light but the strap is bad for tightening the neck well, I bought on Amazon in the USA a strap for my G2 with a rear wheel that changes life so that the helmet does not move on my head!
-The Crystal slab and its Ppd at 35:
-This is what I tested yesterday with sweviver and soon the 42 ppd lens which will soon be available.
With such a panel, a fov at 140/diagonal/such a Ppd, we no longer need SuperSampling, so we relieve the power of the gpu.
-The image is clear over the entire surface of the slab, no chromatic distortion.
More image blur laterally
Incredible color, contrast, vision very very far in clear games/DCS WOLRD Dogfight .
-Then to compare the #Lcd panel of the g2/8kx + #Fresnel lens with the #Qled panel + aspherical lens of the Crystal.
To give you a simple comparison in rendering as on a PC/Flat or TV/flat screen:
Rendering of g2/8kx = 1080p see 1440p per eye.
Rendering of the crsytal =2160p/ 4k per eye
I don’t know if one day you’ve been to a store for new TVs from Samsung with Qled panels like crystal.
On these new samsung Qled tv screens. we discover a magnificent 4k image like an oled screen.
well, the crytal comes with its commercial name, the image is crystal clear, from vr 3.0, forget what you’ve had with our g2/8kx/index/quest2 / Varjo aero for 10 years.

And who was talking and promising vr at fov from 140/ppd to 30 /4k per eye in 2018?
Well, he was one of Oculus’ boss /CEO at Oculus Connect 2018.
And he promised that in 2024 not before see 2026.

Great to see that you really enjoyed the experience!
Btw, this criticism of the other reviews is not really justified - fist of all, not all VR users are using their headsets only for simulations, so a reviewer/youtuber should not restrict their review strictly to the use case simulation only. And you‘ll have to admit that the other types of use, i.e. room-scale, with controllers, stand-alone, demand many further features/specs to perform well which need to be checked & addressed in reviews.
As was already mentioned, even the tracking of the headset can be really low level and you might not be concerned: in simulations I occasionally had both of my headsets (G2/8KX) go back from 6DoF to 3DoF due to some issues, and it often took a while before I even noticed it, and when I did I still could continue and enjoy my time in the simulation. This would render a headset completely useless for the other types of VR uses.
And one of the most discussed reviews here was Bradley‘s: he explicitly mentioned that it will be a great headset for simmers; it is just that many of the additional specs needed for the other use cases are not there yet in the quality needed or could not be reviewed at all.
Do you are going to be content with the more standard FoV then? I guess it means you are okay to sacrifice FoV to get the better resolution (especially over the 5K, but I thought you were using an 8KX so the 5K should have been in the show case since 2 years already?).
For me it would depend on the experience - there are games & experiences where the ultra-wide FoV adds more than better resolution would, so for those I would probably still prefer the 8KX. But admittedly they are a clear minority so I can see why one perhaps just doesn‘t want to bother to operate two headsets for that purpose.
For me it means that I will wait to see what Pimax can do with the 12K. As I am not using VR for simulations only, I also want to see the other features implemented well and it seems that that will take some time anyhow, be it for the Crystal or 12K.
