Updated amd drivers from 21.3.2 to version 21.4.2.
After restarting the computer all I got was a black screen on my monitor. Several restarts did not help.
Eventually traced it to the fact that I had left my 8kx connected to the computer while updating. With the 8kx disconnected, I got to see my desktop again. I then removed all the drivers again and reinstalled them one more time. Once I was able to see the desktop, I plugged in the thin power USB cable first, then the thick USB cable and finally the display port cable. Plugging in the display port cable first resulted in a crash.
