Seriously, after spending the last week or so mainly doing my first baby steps in DCS World 2.5 flying around the F/A-18C Hornet, but also trying out some other VR simulators, I’m getting super-hyped about the Pimax 8K like never before!
Flight simulators, racing sims and similar - this is what Pimax 8K was MADE for! Already now using the Odyssey I can see the huge improvement with the high resolution compared to Vive/Rift, but I can only imagine how things are gonna look and feel through a 200 FOV headset with even higher resolution. The better sense of speed with peripheral vision, the better clarity at distance and the sharper optics overall is going to make any old VR simulator and game feel like new again for sure.
If Pimax 8K lives up to the potential and all our hopes, then VR is going to have a huge growth the upcoming years. We are living in an incredible time era, guys. The VR content is finally starting to catch up a little - and all we need now is a proper VR headset!
Yeah yeah, all the fuzz about mobile VR headsets is good news for the average Joe of course, but the true VR immersion that “real” PC VR headsets can give us, is upon a completely different level…
So bring it on Pimax team, and show us what real VR is about!
DCS is one of the main reasons I bought the Rift. That and IRacing (now Assetto Corsa and PCars2). I can play only in VR ever since. As one who loves helicopters, I am very excited to fly my M18 and Huey in the 8K. My first flightsim was subLogic’s Flightsim before Microsoft bought the franchise. Played it on an Atari 800XL 8bit. There were 4 colors and the tower was a black stick. Never in a million years would I have considered that I would be setting down an actual fully simulated Huey on a roof top in a VR headset at this fidelity.
Yep, I think the whole huge flight/racing simulator community will soon understand the potential of running those sims in VR Its just something totally different than playing on a monitor. The only thing we need to convince them is higher res panels and wide fov, and thats what Pimax is primising
Haha wow you started early, so cool! My first flight simulator was MS Flight Simulator 95 and from that day I was totally sold into it and grinded flight sims almost daily until 2004-2005 when I gave it a long break. Now with VR, the interest for simulators has totally got me back on track again and indeed its incredible how far we have come in terms of technology!
Having all that said, sometimes I miss my old C64 days I remember everything was so new - the most simple game was amazing lol
I’m pretty much solely a flight and race simmer and have been waiting for vr my whole life. Once I got the Rift there’s never any going back.
DCS is just the best thing for vr. I love every moment in the cockpit.
The only bummers are resolution/SDE and FOV. So hurry up Pimax. You’re my shot at addressing these.
same but i get what he is saying. i have never felt the limits of my vive like when i tried project cars with it. the complete inability to see distance made me continually acutely aware i had headset on in a way no other vive scenario has. clarity at distance is one of the biggest selling points for me.

I’m getting hyped too. Last night, I bought Dirt Rally, based on your recent video (and the fact it is on sale on Steam at 80% off). I sure hope it works with the Pimax 8K. Even if it doesn’t, I’ve only wasted $12. Mainly, I want a “demo” game for friends who don’t play ED and aren’t used to a HOTAS setup.
I don’t have any other VR gear, so when my 8K arrives, I’ll only be able to play seated games, like Elite Dangerous and Dirt Rally. I’ve got an old Logitech steering wheel; I hope it still works, since I haven’t used it in 5 years.
Dirt Rally in VR is better than sex. I drove a real 74 Celica GT for about 10 years as hard as the pros did and until DR in VR, I had never come close to matching the feeling. Dirt Rally was uninspiring until VR made it possible to see the undulations in the road and land the car properly. When you do it translates almost perfectly to my real life experiences.
It will be interesting to see how much revive overhead affects performance. I can run it om my Rift with pretty high settings and a PD of 1.8
Chances are, it will. I bought the G25 around 2006, together with a Playseat, but then never really used it as it simply was too burdensome to set everything up: either I would have to move the monitor from the desk, or use my beamer, but as I had multiple uses for the room, I would need to clean up the whole mess after every session. So I effectively abandoned the whole racing setup till late summer 2016, when I figured that I could give simracing a new chance with my new Rift & Vive. But I expected the old equipment in the attic to be broken but forced myself to nevertheless give it a try. Guess what - it worked (almost) flawlessly, only the shifter doesn‘t work anymore, but I wouldn‘t have used it anyhow. And what an experience it was, and still is !! At some stage I might consider buying a direct drive wheel & pedals from Fanatec, which they are expected to release soon. But for the moment the G25 is really cool and lots of fun.
I agree, Dirt Rally is quite amazing in VR. I think its the most immersive and authentic racing game/sim in VR so far, yes even more than PC2 and AC if u ask me. Graphics may be outdated but there’s something very unique when it comes to the feeling of driving in VR on those narrow rally roads at crazy speeds. For 12 bucks its a steal.
With a force feedback wheel setup, even an old Logitech like my g27, its jawdropping and still the number 1 choice most of the time when I show off VR for the first time to friends.
It will probably be one of the first 5 games to try on Pimax
Wide FOV in combat flight Sims, that’s what I’m excited for. My gaming seat is wide and deep, and I’m old and a little chubby. These factors conspire to prevent me looking back past 90ish degrees. Hopefully I can look more rearward using my eyes and the extra bit of screen.
Yep, wide FOV in DCS is gonna really change that simulator and bring us the real “speed” feeling Try looking through a scuba mask while driving a car in 100km/h. Then take it off. The difference is huge. The peripheral vision is more important than many ppl may imagine.
oh btw for Im gonna be sitting in a racing seat soon as well …spoiler
If he had it, he would not have time to post here… no, just imagine you were him: he is sitting there, waiting for the elusive shipping notice from Pimax, actually waiting for it since a month or so, and now he is led to believe that the M1 may ship next week.
This is why he cannot stop droolin‘ about the 8K, he is (hopefully) just a couple of days away from finally getting his hands on it for more than a short demo…
Actually your right. If Sweviver had one he would be super busy having a super cool time in VR. Super awesome… Playing sim games in the Pimax 8K will be super exciting
Love your work Heliosurge. Loking forward debugging this thing once we have it. I’ll still be sharing it with Eno. I have the perfect roadcase to ship it down the line
