CV1 upgrade to Pimax 4K + PSMove / Kinect positional tracking

Why you need hand tracking if you are using Wheel/HOTASs? Hands should just emulate VR controllers. Your biggest problem with Pingpong was actually gyro who is not compensating platform motion. As well cameras need to be fixed somehot with motion platform to compensating platform motion. Same problem is with kinect, need to be fixed to platform to not catch platform moving only your body move.

What if you mounted the camera stably with dampers to motion rig pointed at the user? (i would imagine you’d want ir ping pong ball)

I know 4 sure with 360 kinect wouldn’t likely work due to itsvself leveling & such.

Maybe xb1 depending on how it orients.

Kinect won`t work if can see only the head [ especially with HMD ], also arms / hands should be visible for the alghoritm to calculate correct head position. From my experience if sometime is hidden and not visible to camera [ my hands / chest ] then the orientation is commonly shifting / jumping - working not as precise as should → so visibility is important.

I like it better on DOF when the body if moving due to G-force to feel that I am a little moving inside the car [ especially head ] - my mind and I like it better that way. I seen many people made on DOF tracking compensating the body drift, but I like it as it is.

Good question → if is really better, then worth to buy V2 [ checked and ±70$ including PC adapter ] - but dont really want to buy if works same as X360 I have.

The possible benefit is no longer mechanical orientation & optical tracking vs ir scattering projection.

Thank you! Body rotation will work only at 180°? I would like to avoid ping pong ball for sure. What about the psmoves and Kinect? Do I still need ps3 eye cameras to make them work? Anyone did a video with full room setup using Kinect?

Yeah, exactly. Right now I am leaning towards getting a 360 kinect, the setup seems an awful lot easier.

Can anyone confirm whether driver4vr solution works in Pimax/ steamvr direct mode and not extended?

I am a simmer and desperately need proper 6DOF headtracking as my trackIR provided, IN DIRECT MODE is this possible?

It does work in direct mode, yes.

I’ve got a 360 Kinect yesterday, it’s is nice and easy without tracking ball! is there any config for it or default is good? You too have the green light blinking? it never stops also if it is working
lol

I also have the kinect 360. Works ‘out of the box’ and it has a driver that hooks into Steam VR to provide the position of the head. Which is funny when you take off the headset, it will continue to track your head. That’s not a problem though. The software might have trouble deciding who to track if you have more people in the room I noticed.

I just got my kinect for xbox one and the adapter. what do i need to do to make it work with pimax? I had the kinect 360 and did not get it to work either with pimax. I have the Driver4VR installed. Is that all I need? Thanks.

Hello, I am thinking of replacing my OSVR HDK2 by a Pimax.
I already set up PSMOVE position tracking for it (https://www.reddit.com/r/OSVR/comments/6p7yjo/psmoveservice_hdk2_osvr_fusion_steamvr_is_working) because of the bad tracking of the current HDK2. As I am happy with this PSMOVE tracking, I wanted to use it for Pimax if I buy one.
But there is one thing that I do not understand by reading the post of this topic : how do you manage to get the rotational information from the PIMAX?
Do you use freetrack ? But there is no API in freetrack for PIMAX ?
Or is Drive4vR able to read directly the IMU information of the PIMAX ?

I believe driver4vr doesn’t do rotation, it comes directly from pimax.

Hey,

The newest update from driver4vr adds the ability to move and rotate around virtual space

I heard, looking forward to trying it. Does it work well?

I can’t get my bluetooth controller to pair on win7 so I don’t know if it works yet.

Update: Got it working after upgrading my bluetooth dongle to version 4.0 (from 2.0)

Hey,

Tested a few moments ago looks very promising!

Me too, got the trigger working but the bluetooth joystick needs win10 to pair without pincode. My main VR rig runs win7 and can’t connect without pincode.
Some people got it working with pincode 0000 but I had no success.

Update. I got a new Bluetooth dongle version4.0 (used 2.0 before) And now it didn’t ask for a pincode on Win7.

I tried to map the PSMove controllers buttons to the left/right hands with no success but I believe with a bit more investigation I’ll get there. Oh by the way I’ll also change the config options for the leap since near the HMD the controllers act funny.

What type of change do you make?
