Keep in mind also everyone that Valve is STILL fine tuning the knuckles capsense technology. On reddit several devs that got knuckles say things still need adjusting even now. Makes me wonder how Pimax will perfect this technology in such a short amount of time?
Another issue is every game is going to have to be modified to work with this style of controller considering how radically different it seems to be. How many devs will go through the effort of mapping controller inputs to this lesser known controller?
It should be virtually identical to Valves design in order to ensure as much adoption as possible.
All finger tracked
Compatibility with games
Need as many buttons as Kunckle controllers
Refers to Oculus touchās A, B, X and Y.
Need separate system button
I find it somewhat entertaining that youāve labeled ā1 unitā on a unit circle, without actually listing what the units areā¦
Beyond that, I have to agree with what others are saying: Itās important to have full finger tracking with cap-sense and at least as many face buttons as the knuckles. That said, a grip button with cap-sense over it, so you can have it both sensing a closed hand and squeeze further for a button press, could be incredibly useful and a good selling point over Valveās knuckles. Using the valve steam controller has definitely given me an appreciation for that kind of extra button (though itās not a good replacement for a face button on its own).
On another note, you have the directions on the track pad marked out, which is both informative and interesting. Will you have any texturing on the track pad to help with orientation?
Edit: Semi related thought, could buttons be put on the headset itself for certain system, display, or hardware related functions. Something like tapping the side of your head to pull up a hud or coms menu? It seems like a great way to get in some extra functionality without risking overloading buttons a game might already need and it could help with potential future hardware expansions, like a dedicated button for a pass-through camera, if you want to see your surroundings for a momentā¦
@deletedpimaxrep1, @Matthew.Xu and @bacon:
The idea is that we have the same functionalities as the Valve knuckles. That remains fixed without needing to hold it, to detect if we open or close the hand to catch, release or throw objects.
The growing impression I get is that people would like confirmation that the controller will have full feature matching with the knucklesā¦
Any extra features and buttons are great but can we get a straightforward confirmation or denial that the piMax controllers will be their own version of the knuckles with, at minimum, every input matching the knuckles.
As for buttons on the hmd which was also brought up, a home button would be ideal like on the Vive but from what I understand the tooling has already been done for the moulds.
Thank you
I donāt understand how Pimax got to this stage in the design stage without having already adding these in without us asking for it ? These are basic things that should have already been considered and implementedā¦ Whoever is doing the designing here doesnāt seem to have thought this through at all.
i would hope for/expect some basic haptics/feedback like the vive wands. Given in some cases it has a functional aspect i would say its near mandatory.
I will communicate with the development team in the afternoon. Please donāt worry. I will tell the development team your ideas and Suggestions. Iāll come back and tell you good news.
