Confused About 8K X

Greetings,
I’m confused about the new Pimax Vision 8K X. I was an 8K X Backer in 2017, and I haven’t received my headset yet. I’m wondering when it will ship. I’m also wondering if the 8K X backers are getting the vision 8K X as an upgrade. Thank you, and have a wonderful day.

All 8kX backers will Receive t the 8kX Vision with Pimax Comfort kit(free upgrade).

As you never received the loaner you can likely still use the options if you want to purchase say a 5k+ to have delivered & keep.

Current projection I think 8kXs likely start shipping in Dec?

Thank you for clarifying!

Shipping in Dec? Does Pimax in the last 2 years done at anytime what they told us? Words are still just words and these they changed really often. Dates are not fixed dates always moved to …

I find it a bit annoying too that they haven’t told us anything. I mean, I backed the headset in 2017, and for the past few months, I’ve had to rely on the forums for answers, because Pimax support has been awful, which is sad to say because the support in late 2017 / early 2018 was spectacular!

Why I said “likely” instead of definitely. :beers::wink::vulcan_salute::sparkles:

Communication definitely needs improvement & is a big project in itself. I think they will get there; just the consumer desire has caused strong growing pains.

So they need our help in supporting them during this diffucult growing period. And I think 1 major roadblock in that is being worked on to allow an open community. Without unkind restrictive controls on the narrative. :beers::sunglasses::vulcan_salute::sparkles:

Nicely told!
I guess many still overlook that they are still not the size of a global player.

Edit: I hope Sweviver and PimaxUsa are allowed to help - but I remember from my former company that there are cultural differences that are not always easy to get started - I was training a team from IBM China and it took some time and error to get us running - some of the things I saw on PiD2 and the communication reminded me of those days

The delays are annoying, but take comfort in this: The headset has had major improvements (single cable, much lower GPU requirements, better LCD panels, sturdier housing, etc.) and that, as an original backer, you will be one of the first to receive the 8KX.

@Matthew.Xu, I backed 8KX, I got 5K+ as loaner, I will not keep this loaner, I assume Pimax will ship 8KX only after receiving the returned loaner, may I know when the return label will be sent out? Thank you.

Yes, is expected at the end of December.

On top of that there is the comfort kit, MAS, much better panel utilization, scaled mode option and every other improvement we have made many of which aren’t obvious.

We will contact you before 8KX shipment and send you a return label.
We will send you an 8KX after we receive the loaner. Thank you.

OooOoOo This sounds very interesting! Does it mean a larger fov? Or better stereo overlap? What exactly does this result in, could you say something about the technical aspects of the improved and much more expensive headsets?

Id love to see an indepth 8KX review

I believe you just misread the @SweViver comment. It has been mentioned, albeit indirectly, at every occasion that the new headsets do not change the “design”, i.e. the optics and/or the lenses.

Maybe for someone new (I am not sure if you have followed the forum and the new products announcement), SweViver’s comment out of the context may suggest there are new lenses on 8k-X, but I would rather read it as “we are working on some new designs, but I cannot really talk about it, because nothing solid has come out of it yet.”

I believe the lenses has been even addressed in one of the Pimax day streams.

@PimaxUSA @SweViver @Matthew.Xu

Do we have to expect another Revision of the Vision series with new lenses some time next year? If yes why buy the first versions…

Nah for that they need new lenses. It just likely means like the 5k+ probably a 5" panel vs the 5.5" panel (which was likely what the 5k originally slotted to use; so really the + was -0.5")

Not sure I’m following what you’re saying

It is just about panel size. Since Pimax’s lenses can’t cover all the panels at once, panel utilization gets better when attaching smaller panels than bigger panels.
