Chaperone / Guardian system improvements

As the Pimax supports SteamVR Tracking and its own inside-out tracking system?, can we assume that the SteamVR tracking is the chaperone system? and a custom solution for inside-out?

I use a Rift so I am coming from experience using that mostly.

Anyway, It would be nice if we could configure how it works.

  • No visual popup but an audio queue like a car reversing beep-beep that starts when you get within nn distance of your boundary. In addition to that it is configurable with different falloffs for different boundary areas. e.g. I can set it to be VERY loud beeping if about to punch a monitor or a window and less urgent if about to kick the sofa or a bed for example.

  • In game re-orientation markers. A very faint partially transparent circle/compass on the floor in your VR starting position. This overlay can be toggled on/off in any game and stays there. So when friends play you can tell them to “get back on the marker” when they unknowingly wander into a corner. People currently put mats down, or even a fan blowing on them to reorient so would be nice if we could have this as an option.

  • Ability to add/include a boundary object, e.g. a supporting beam or pillar that is in your play space.

Thoughts?

That should be doable with Optic tracking for sure. In theory with lighthouse if you can augment it eith a depth camera it could work as well.

I do know oculus & steam tracking are not compatible with one another though.

But either way it would be great not to punch things while in vr as we might hit it harder. Lol

Exactly. Play space is a big problem for many so we risk punching and falling over stuff. Myself I have punched my wall full on in the heat of battle many times. The problem was I was within reach of the wall, an orientation marker would have saved that from happening.
