There’s no deny that the Pimax 8K has the same zig-zag RGB pixel arrangement as on the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium’s 4K panel manufactured by SHARP which I have with me right now. Here’s the specific model:
user login, which has a 50-pin connector.
I’ve searched and there’s variations such as the LS055D1SX01 and LS055D1SX05 which have the same specs but with a 60-pin connector instead. FYI the Sony phone uses the 60-pin version.
Also PIMAX claims that their display technology is patented with their special marketing terminology like “CLPL” display but if I’m right, it’s just a generic panel manufactured by SHARP and I’m 90% sure I am. I’m not hating or anything, in fact I’m on the verge of backing the KS project, sooner or later. Can anyone confirm my statements? P.S I’m also quite curious what type of HDMI to MIPI converter board PIMAX uses.
LS055D1SX05 is used in the Pimax 4k. I read yesterday that an employee had said to somebody at the demo that the producer for the 8k’s panels was from Japan, so if that’s true then it almost has to be Sharp again. So you might be right. Besides I don’t know of any other company that produces 5" 4k screens.
I would think the same as well. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium has an updated 4K panel which is supposedly much better but I doubt Pimax could get their hands on it.
But you’re right, it’s a new panel since it features HDR. However business insider says:
“The Xperia XZ Premium’s display isn’t optimized for VR regardless — it’s an LCD panel, so it struggles with motion blur more than an OLED screen of, say, the Samsung Galaxy S8 does. Swing your head around and things will lose focus and appear more nauseating than they should.”
Yet it is possible that with some tweaks, like low persistence, they fixed that
I would believe it would be mostly if not completely software based. And yes, the Z5 Premium in VR has considerable motion blur and ghosting compared to my S7 Edge.
